Cookie Week – Hidden Kisses

These are one of this year’s “experimental cookies”. I had never baked or even tasted them before, but they looked interesting so I thought I’d give them a try. Unfortunately, they weren’t as flavorful as I thought they would be. It really tasted like there was an ingredient missing. I’m thinking that the lack of salt has something to do with it. I can’t think of any other cookie recipe that doesn’t call for at least a dash of salt!

We put Reli to work unwrapping the kisses, and were both surprised 
when she didn’t start stuffing them straight into her mouth!

Hidden Kisses

3/4 cup butter, softened
1/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 1/2 cups flour
25 Hershey kisses
3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Combine butter and brown sugar in a medium bowl.

Beat with an electric mixer set at medium speed until light and fluffy. 
Beat in vanilla extract and cinnamon. Stir in flour.
Shape dough into twenty-five 1-inch balls and squish into flat circles. 
Place a kiss on each circle and fold dough around candy.
Arrange cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets. 
Bake until golden, about 15 minutes.
Sprinkle confectioners’ sugar and cocoa on hot cookies.
Cool cookies on baking sheets for 10 minutes. 
Transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Kinda just looks like a blob to me.

Oh well, I guess they can’t all be winners.
