Books: Divergent Series

Divergent and Insurgent book covers

I just finished Divergent this past week, and though I’m not quite ready to adore it with a cult like fervor, I did enjoy the story. I already have Insurgent on my desk, and can’t wait to start it. Unfortunately the second book in most trilogies is usually a real let down for me. Hopefully once I’ve finished the entire series my opinion will change for the better instead of worse. I really do want to like it. *fingers crossed*

See what else I’ve been reading on my Good Reads page.

TV & Movies: Elementary

Elementary tv show

This is probably my new favorite show. There’s such great chemistry between Sherlock and Watson, and the cases actually keep me guessing unlike some of the other crime dramas. (maybe I watched too much law & order in my day.) Does anyone else follow Elementary? Did you have any idea who Moriarty was?!? I can’t wait for season two!

Websites: Design-Seeds.com

Design Seeds color palette
Can I tell you a very sad secret?
I’m absolutely terrible at putting together coordinating colors. It’s true! If you look back at any of my past projects you’ll see that I never use more than two colors, and they are both usually solids. This shirt is probably the only time I’ve ever used two printed fabrics in the same outfit. EVER. I truly love patterns, but for some reason I just don’t have that magical ability that lets you match them together properly. Color palette sites are pretty much my version of crafting cheat sheets, and I love the choices at Design-Seeds. One day when I have a house, this will be the only reason that my decor looks even the least bit coordinated!

Food: Almond Icing

Bakery Style Frosting Recipe

You’d think I’d be sick of it after the four batches I made for Morgan’s Birthday Cake, but nope.

I’m pretty sure I’ll love it forever. Give the recipe a try and let me know what you think!

Kids: Pockets

Mommy & me - teal painted toe nails

I guess this one could go under kids as well, but while we were home for Morgan Birthday Party, my other little cousin, Mylea, painted Aurelia’s nails. It was probably the highlight of her trip, and she’s been asking me to paint them again and again every day since we got home. Now if I could only get her to stop chewing it all off an hour after it dries!

Just for Fun: Swiss Dot Fabric

Swiss Dot fabric collage
I have no idea what I want to make with it, but I’m dying to get my hands on some Swiss Dot fabric.

As soon as I find a really cute floral one, I’ll definitely be treating myself to some for my birthday!
